Iron Man 2 Synopsis

Synopsis: Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is not doing well. Suffering post-traumatic stress disorder after the last act of The Avengers, Tony's gotten a bit paranoid and has been making more and more advanced Iron Man suits (getting up to the Mark 42 armor see in all the previews). This crisis of the mind couldn't have come at a worst time since The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) has emerged as the new face of terrorism. With him and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) making Tony's life a living hell, will Ol' Shellhead be able to make it out of this one in one piece?

And now we can all relax a bit. It's okay, fellow nerds and movie lovers; Iron Man 3 is a damn good if not spectacular film. While I cannot say with certainty that I find it superior to Iron Man 1 it's leagues above Iron Man 2: Killing Time Until The Avengers. So breath a sigh of relief. Then start worring about Man of Steel.

The movie's basic conceit is that it's a journey's end story for Tony Stark. After three other films, the man's come to his lowest point and has started considering what truely is important in his life. With the destruction of his home, his toys mostly taken away, his family proxies kidnapped or busy and S.H.I.E.L.D away doing whatever is going on with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Tony basically has to go into  hi-tech survivalist mode to stop the evil plan of A.I.M and the Mandarin. It's basically a more lean version of The Dark Knight Rises. Only instead of a Catwoman I don't really care for and a supporting cast slowly being widdled down, we get Pepper and Rhodey getting chances to kick so serious ass.

Which leads me to the glories of the rest of the cast. We already know that Tony's a spectacular character in his own right, but Pepper and Col. James Rhodes each get to chances to prove they belong in this story and serve important functions, not only in Tony's life but in the series as a whole. The villain cast is also really damn good, with Ben Kingsley giving his mandarin proper menace and Guy Pearce doing the evil Tony Stark wannabe with more swagger and confidence than Sam Rockwell was allowed to deliver in Iron Man 2. Also, the villain twist, while it does kinda burn me, I do love said twist and it works in-universe.

In short, just go see the damn film if you haven't already. It's good and gives the Marvel Movieverse's Phase Two off to a good start. Good job, Hollywood blockbuster season. Now make sure Man of Steel and Thor: The Dark World don't suck.
